Who Are The Most Important Badgers against BYU?

Despite another slow start by Wisconsin’s offense, the Badgers eventually turned it on in the second half for a second consecutive week to win by 31 points over New Mexico. Before starting conference play against Iowa, Wisconsin will turn its attention to Brigham Young and the final nonconference game of the year.

After a disappointing 2017 season, finishing the year 4-9, the Cougars have split their first two games by beating Arizona on the road in the opener and losing to California at home last week by three points. With Wisconsin winning handily last year in Provo, Utah, the Cougars will be looking for revenge in their first trip to Madison since 2013.

The rankings for the Front Seven are determined based on performance from last week, expectations this coming week and need. Here are our seven players most important in helping the Badgers to a victory over Brigham Young.

Last Week’s Rankings in Parentheses

7, Safety Scott Nelson (NR)

Playing consistently around the football, Nelson has been able to make plenty of plays over the course of Wisconsin’s first two games. Nelson’s ability to make plays on the ball when it’s in the air is big, as he has registered two pass breakups, which leads the team, and recorded the first interception of his career against New Mexico. Nelson’s activeness on defense has allowed Wisconsin to limit long pass plays. Nelson’s football IQ will only continue to grow as he gains more game experience, which will ultimately allow him to make more plays for the defense.
