Badgers Open As Favorites For Saturday Road Test

MADISON, Wis. – Going into a tough venue for its first road trip of the season, the oddsmakers still have faith in the Badgers.

Wisconsin opened as a 3.5-point favorite for Saturday’s primetime matchup at Iowa (7:30 p.m., FOX). The meeting will be the 92nd all-time between the two schools but the first primetime kickoff in Iowa City.

Iowa holds an 11-5 record in Kinnick Stadium’s history. The Hawkeyes knocked off No.2 Michigan on a last-second field goal in 2016 and was a second away from beating No.4 Penn State last season. Iowa also routed No.3 Ohio State, 55-24, last November, a loss that cost the Buckeyes a spot in the College Football Playoffs.

Wisconsin’s spot in the College Football Playoffs is already on life support after its 24-21 upset loss to BYU at Camp Randall Stadium last weekend. The defeat plummeted 12 spots to No. 18 in the Associated Press poll Sunday and moved the Cougars into the poll at No.25. UW also dropped 10 spots to No. 16 in the Amway Coaches Poll.

The AP ranking is the Badgers’ lowest since they were unranked to begin the 2016 season. UW enters Big Ten play this week as the third-highest ranked team in the conference behind No.4 Ohio State and No. 10 Penn State.

Iowa (3-0) is the top team in the receiving votes category. The Hawkeyes have beat Northern Illinois, Iowa State and Northern Iowa at home to start the year, winning those three games by an average of 20 points.

Winning five of the last six meetings in the series, Wisconsin leads the series 46-43-2 and has won its last four road meetings.
