BREAKING: Jack Coan To Start At Quarterback for Wisconsin at Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – Redshirt sophomore Jack Coan will make his first collegiate start Saturday as No.20 Wisconsin plays for first place in the Big Ten West at Northwestern.

Coan will be making his season debut in place of junior quarterback Alex Hornibrook (concussion), who had started 30 of UW’s last 33 games, including the last 21 in a row.

Coan, from Sayville, N.Y., has not played this season because the staff is trying to take advantage of a first-year rule that allows players to play up to four games and still retain a season of eligibility. Coan won the backup job as a true freshman over now-transferred quarterback Kare Lyles. Coan appeared in six games as a freshman in 2017 and completed all five of his passes, for 36 yards.

Hornibrook has started all seven games for UW. He has completed 59.6 percent of his passes for an average of 179.1 yards per game, with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Dating back to 1992, Wisconsin quarterbacks have a 14-4 record making their first start.
