Wisconsin Commitment Impact - Rodas Johnson

Committed Over

Columbus (OH) St. Francis DeSales defensive tackle Rodas Johnson committed to Wisconsin Tuesday over finalists Penn State and Texas. He also had scholarship offers from Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, West Virginia and several others.

Rated

Johnson is a four-star prospect by the 247sports composite and the No.21 defensive tackle in the country.

On Film

Recruited by Wisconsin assistant coaches Inoke Breckterfield and Joe Rudolph, Johnson is an athletic athlete on tape. Listed at 6-3 and 285 pounds, Johnson shows strong footwork that translates on either side of the ball and strong hand placement that can stop would-be rushers or displace offensive linemen who aren’t sound in their technique.

Projected to be on the defensive side of the ball, Johnson shows decent burst through the line of scrimmage and pursues the football through traffic, a necessity for a defensive tackle in Wisconsin’s 3-4 scheme.

In the film I’ve seen, Johnson often lines up at defensive end and will occasionally have a linebacker lined up on his outside shoulder. At the position, Johnson does a good job setting the outside edge and forcing runners back toward the middle of the field or limit them to minimal gain.

At 285 pounds, Johnson needs to put some weight on his frame but has the look of a really solid interior defensive lineman.
