Wisconsin took care of business with an important first road win over Xavier Tuesday night. Before the Badgers travels to the Bahamas to compete in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament, they will have one final tune-up against Houston Baptist Saturday night.
The Huskies are coming off a 6-25 season under head coach Ron Cottrell and split their first two games of this season, a 30-point loss to Arizona and a tight 3-point home victory against Fordham. This will mark the first meeting between the two schools.
In this Badgers Insider feature, we will look at the three keys or questions for Wisconsin (2-0) as they prepare to play Houston Baptist on Saturday.
FREE THROW: CAN D’MITRIK TRICE STAY RED HOT?
In consecutive games Trice has posted new career highs in points, scoring 21 in the season opener against Coppin State and then 22 points at Xavier. In particular, Trice has been red hot from three, shooting 10-for-14 (71.4 percent) from the perimeter. After knocking down all five of his 3-point attempts at Xavier, Trice acknowledged after the game that he can’t keep shooting the ball at the pace he is. But with Houston Baptist allowing teams to shoot 45.6 percent (52-for-114) from the field and 39.2 percent (20-for-51) from three, Trice will certainly have his opportunities to continue shooting the ball at a high rate.
Through two games the Badgers have been able to consistently pass the ball, allowing Trice and other players to settle for high-quality shots without their shot attempts being consistently contested. If Wisconsin can continue running its offensive sets, it should allow Trice to receive some open looks on the offensive end.
