Alex Hornibrook To Start vs. Minnesota

MADISON, Wis. – UW officials confirm that junior quarterback Alex Hornibrook has cleared the concussion protocol and will start for the Badgers in their regular-season home finale against Minnesota (2:30 p.m./ESPN).

Hornibrook has played only one half of football since Oct.27, missing three of UW’s last four games after sustaining a pair of concussions since Oct.20. He has completed 58.1 percent of his passes on the season, throwing for 1,343 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Hornibrook is 26-5 (.839) as the Badgers’ starting QB, including a 20-3 mark (.870) in Big Ten play. His 26 wins rank in a tie for fifth-most in school history, while his .839 win percentage is the best of any UW quarterback with at least 15 starts.

Sophomore quarterback Jack Coan has played four games as Hornibrook’s replacement, going 1-2 in his starts, completing 61.0 percent of his passes, four touchdowns and two interceptions. If Coan were to play against the Gophers or in the bowl game, he wouldn’t be eligible to redshirt this season.
