Wisconsin Coaches Drop In On Graham Mertz

With their 2018 regular season done, the University of Wisconsin coaching staff is out on the road recruiting in preparation for the start of the early signing period beginning Dec.19.

One of their first known stops was to one of the most talked about commitments in recent UW recruiting history.

After leading his team to the state championship game last Saturday, Overland Park (KS) Blue Valley North quarterback Graham Mertz and his family hosted head coach Paul Chryst and quarterback coach Jon Budmayr Monday night.

A four-star quarterback, Mertz’s squad fell 24-16 to Derby in the Kansas 6A state championship Saturday, the same school the Mustangs beat for the state title the year before.

Throwing for 51 touchdowns this past season, Mertz threw for 1,728 yards and 24 touchdowns in the playoffs alone.

One of 17 commits in Wisconsin’s 2019 class, Mertz is expected to enroll early to compete in spring workouts.
