Wisconsin Commitment Impact - Cameron Phillips

Committed Over

Westerville (OH) native Cameron Phillips, who spent last season at IMG Academy in Florida, committed to Wisconsin on a preferred walk-on offer Saturday. That news was first reported by 247sports. Before tearing his ACL, Phillips had offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, Pittsburgh and Rutgers,

Rated

Phillips is rated a three-star prospect and the No.84 receiver in the country by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

On Film

Evaluating Phillips as a prospect currently is tricky, as the 6-2 receiver missed all of last season with an ACL injury suffered prior to his senior season. But when you watch his tape from Westerville (OH) Central, it’s easy to see why Wisconsin was attracted to him and why he was rated a four-star athlete.

While he’s not a lightning-fast player (he ran a 4.73 40-yard dash and a 3.95-second shuttle in the spring of 2017), he runs solid, concise routes. UW likes to have receivers play multiple positions and Phillips has the makeup of someone who can handle multiple roles within an offense. Rivals’ Jon McNamara referred to Phillips as someone who, “looks a bit like Danny Davis in his playmaking ability and catch radius.” I can definitely subscribe to that theory.
