Settle Targeted By Louisville? Maybe, Maybe Not

Thursday Update: AppStateMania debunks the report, saying John Settle has not been targeted by the new Louisville coaching staff.

Following Thursday’s bowl game, University of Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst is reportedly going to have a coaching position to fill on his staff.

Per Rivals’ Tyler Rash, running back coach John Settle will be the hired on former Appalachian State coach Scott Satterfield’s first staff at Louisville.

Settle is in his fourth season since returning to the Wisconsin football program in 2015 and his ninth season overall as the Badgers’ running backs coach.

Settle, who spent the 2014 season coaching running backs at Pittsburgh under current UW head coach Paul Chryst, previously served five years as the running backs coach at Wisconsin when Chryst served as the Badgers’ offensive coordinator.

During his tenure, Settle has coached such UW standouts as Montee Ball, John Clay, Corey Clement and James White. His current pupil is one of his best, as sophomore Jonathan Taylor finished a season in which he was a unanimous All-American, the conference’s running back of the year and the 2018 Doak Walker Award winner.

Taylor will return for his junior season next year but the Badgers will be looking for backups following the graduation of seniors Taiwan Deal and Chris James, as well as fullback Alec Ingold.

Responsible for recruiting running backs nationally and the Carolinas, Settle helped Wisconsin gain commitments from three-star running back Julius Davis (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) and three-star defensive end Gio Paez (Charlotte, N.C.) in the 2018 class.

No official announcement has been made by either school.
