Wisconsin Slides Out of Top 20 in AP Poll

The University of Wisconsin tumbled seven spots in the Monday’s AP poll following its loss to Western Kentucky Saturday, as the Badgers will begin the new year No.22 in the country.

Wisconsin (10-3, 2-0 Big Ten) suffered its first two losses to teams currently ranked in the AP Top 25, but the Badgers 83-76 loss to a now 7-6 Western Kentucky team was particularly ugly.

The Hilltoppers entered their game against Wisconsin ranked No.147 in the NET rankings (a new tool used to replace the RPI) but had no trouble scoring 53 points in the second half as the Badgers’ lapsed defensively.

UW is one of seven Big Ten teams ranked in the poll, a sign of how challenging the next three months will be for the Badgers now that nonconference play is over.

Wisconsin will host Minnesota (11-2, 1-1) Thursday night at 8 p.m.
